Like Christmas the end of the school year sneaks up on me. Despite the fact that the firefighter has been talking about it for at least two months this weekend I had my usual ‘oh crap there’s only X days left!’ moment.
My boys have wonderful teachers. Thanks to the help and support of his preschool teachers we identified the monkey’s vision problems, which we initially thought were a learning disability, this winter and he’s been slowly but surely catching up on his school skills. I’m grateful for their patience with his enthusiasm and intense emotions ; he gets hugs when he needs them and the structure and redirection he needs when he goes off the rails. Thanks to the firefighter’s Senior Kindergarten teacher my 6 year old is actually reading in French. Even though it’s his first year of French learning he feels confident at school and is soaking up everything around him. My fears about his ‘old soul’ and preference for adult company were relieved by his teacher who reassures me that he is by no means lonely or left out at school and that he’ll find a best friend (or two) in the next year or two with a similar ‘way of being’ that will make school even better than it already is.
If money were no object I would shower them with gifts. Unfortunately a third baby and a husband taking several weeks of parental leave mean money is a wee bit tight right now. So our teacher gifts this year came straight from the heart.
I took photos of the boys holding thank you signs for each of their teachers (of course my squirmy, camera averse monkey is the kid with three teachers).

I framed each of the photos with a few sentences about why they love their teacher.

Each frame has a notebook and two pens tied with ribbon (to the back) and

we made hand print flower cards with a ‘Thank you for helping me grow” message inside.

The firefighter also has two bus drivers and for them we bought travel mugs and the firefighter wrote a thank you note accompanied by a drawing of his school bus.

What thank you gifts are you giving to your children’s teachers this year?

I LOVE this idea..A. will soon be transitioning to preschool, so I may be stealing your photo idea for our daycare provider
You’re so talented!!
Hooray for Pinterest (where I got the idea for the card). I’m really glad they turned out…it’s always risking business when there is paint involved
gifts!? Teacher gifts? Oh crap. I always forget this part.
7 more days!!
Two teachers are getting customized pens and I’m not sure what the other one is getting yet. I better get busy figuring that out!
LOVE the idea of customized pens. Hope you’re sharing pictures!
Great ideas Sara!
Thanks Brie
The firefighter was very excited to take them to school yesterday!
Great ideas Sara.
The surprised look on his bus drivers face made the ‘please print neatly’ reminders worth it
