I think I’ll be

by Sara on November 1, 2012

So a firefighter a monster and a soldier walk into a bar…

Or it might have been a construction worker, a karate kid, and a duck.

Or possibly a skeleton, a fridge, and a chipmunk.

Actually I’m pretty sure it was a superhero, a secret spy, and a bear.

For the last month I’ve been asked about our boys Halloween costumes.  A month ago people weren’t concerned by my ‘I’m not sure’.  Two weeks ago I got a lot of ‘they haven’t decided yet?’ queries.  On Saturday there was a few ‘but Halloween is next week!’ remarks.  Nearly seven years of motherhood and three children is apparently what it takes to break an over-planner.

The baby duck had a duck costume and a monster costume and not a lot of choice.  The monkey and the firefighter had a giant bin of dress up clothes and endless possibilities.  I asked them everyday for the last month what they wanted to be and got a different answer every time.  On Sunday they went to a Halloween party both dressed as construction workers. Today the monkey went to school dressed in a superhero cape and jeans while the firefighter wore his karate uniform.  Tonight the monkey was a firefighter and the firefighter was a soldier.  Confused yet?

Let’s try this again:

A firefighter a monster and a soldier sit on the front step and pose reluctantly for a Halloween photo.  Thanks to a stress free Halloween their mother remains far away from the bar.

They totally ‘get’ Halloween now and it’s a blast. I should write a post about their attempt to carve their own pumpkin unassisted…oy!

I loved the way you told the story here. Although a nice glass of wine at the end of the day wouldn’t have been bad either!

I took advantage of the mom ‘candy tax’, which is apparently 30% ;)
